Reading a datasheetCopy Anchor Link

In the Name step, Datasheet PDF → Read a PDF… opens a PDF from your device. It is read in your browser: nothing is uploaded to read it.

The modeler looks through its text for:

• sizes, such as "150 × 150 × 50.5 mm" or "Height: 50.5 mm";
• the weight;
• port counts, such as "4x USB-C" or "RJ45 × 2".

Each finding is a suggestion, shown with the text it came from, its page, and what the device has now. Accept or Reject each one on its own. Accepted values are marked "datasheet" as their source. An accepted port count adds a row of ports in the middle of the face, for you to drag into place.

A scanned PDF has no text to read, so it gives no suggestions. You can still trace its drawings.

A page with a technical drawing can be used as the image for a face: open Faces and ports, pick the page and choose Use the page. See Tracing photos and drawings.

Keeping a private copyCopy Anchor Link

Signed in, Keep a private copy uploads the open PDF and keeps it with the device, so you (or your other browsers) can open it again later. The device's draft is saved first if it hasn't been.

• Private: only you, who kept it, and Rack Maker's admins can list or open it. Anyone else can't see that it exists. Makers' PDFs are usually copyrighted, so the device's public page shows only the Datasheet link from the Name step.
• Kept copies lists what is kept with the device: its name, size, "private to" you, and where it came from if your agent fetched it from a URL. Open reads it again; the bin button deletes it.
• Limits: PDFs only, up to 15 MB each, and 30 a user an hour.
• Who can keep one: anyone signed in, with a device in a namespace they can draft in, or one they have drafted.

Keeping the same file again with the same device doesn't make a second copy.

Datasheets from your AI agentCopy Anchor Link

Your agent can keep a datasheet with the device too: one at a public URL, or a PDF on your computer through a one-time upload link. Both are kept exactly like a copy kept here, and show in Kept copies. See Datasheet uploads.
