Every catalog entry (its measurements, sockets, checks and the rest of its definition) is shared under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. That means anyone may use, change and share it, including commercially, as long as they:

• credit the people who made it, and
• share alike: publish what they make from it under the same licence.

When you first submit something to the catalog, you are asked to agree that your contributions are published under this licence. You only agree once. Saving drafts doesn't need it; submitting does.

Each entry lists its own credits in its attribution: who made it, who measured it, and, for a copy, which entry and revision it was forked from. Credits are never dropped when an entry is copied or revised. See Namespaces.

Model files keep their own licenceCopy Anchor Link

A 3D model file that an entry is drawn from is separate from the entry and keeps its own licence, chosen by whoever uploaded it. It may be CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA (4.0 or 3.0), MIT or Apache 2.0. A file made by someone else is credited to them, with its title, the page it came from, any changes, and the acknowledgements they ask for.

Model files under other licences aren't uploaded: entries link to them instead. How uploading works is in Authoring parts.

Some builds are recreated with their author's permission rather than under a licence. They are listed as Used with permission and credited, not relicensed.

• In the catalog: a card drawn from a model file shows that file's licence and author at its foot. An entry's page has a Model file card with the full credits.
• In a project: the Credits card lists everyone whose catalog data the project uses, with the parts each made, and every model file it draws with its credits. All credits opens the Credits page.
• On the Credits page: everything in one place.

Credits opens with how many people, parts, devices, builds and model files there are, then has five sections:

• The people: everyone credited on a catalog entry, a model file or a build, one card each. A card says what they did (catalog author, measurer, modeller, 3D model artist, build creator), counts their parts, devices, builds and model files, shows a few of them, and links to their pages online. Entries in the catalog opens the catalog with the Author filter set to them.
• Featured builds: builds recreated with their author's permission, with the write-up, the permission and the credit to copy, and the other builds you can start a project from.
• Model files: every model file, bundled with the app or uploaded, with its licence, title, author, where it came from, what was changed, the acknowledgements, which entries use it, and the credit to copy.
• Software in the app: third-party libraries the app itself uses, with their licences.
• Get your name on this page: how to contribute, model a device or ask for contributor access.

Each model file on the Credits page (and on an entry's Model file card) shows a ready-made credit line, in the form Creative Commons recommends: title, author, source, licence and changes. Copy credit puts it on your clipboard. Use it wherever you share a build that includes the file: a post, a write-up, a video description, a printed-parts listing.

Builds used with permission have a Copy credit button too.

For catalog data, credit the entry's authors, link to the entry's page, and name the licence. For example:
