Rack Maker docs

What Rack Maker is, where to start, the guided tours, and where each part of the app is explained.

Rack Maker helps you plan a homelab rack before you build it. Pick a 10″ or 19″ rack, a DeskPi RackMate or wire shelving, place your devices in 3D, and check what fits. Rack Maker then gives you the parts list, a quote and STL files for the parts you print.

Everything it knows about hardware comes from a shared catalog of racks, mounts and devices. If your device is missing, the device modeler turns your measurements into a 3D model with its ports. Your own AI agent can do the measuring for you.

Three steps

  1. Start a project on Projects: from a template, like the RackMate TL1 or an 8-node DGX Spark cluster, or from an empty 10″ or 19″ rack. Creating one needs an account; opening one someone shares with you doesn't.
  2. Place parts. Drag them from Parts onto the 3D view or the elevation, or click a part and then a place. Select anything to change it in the Inspector.
  3. Check and build. The checks say what doesn't fit, BOM & quote prices what to buy, and Printed parts exports the STLs.
A project in the editor: parts on the left, the rack in 3D, and its checks and details on the right.

Your first project walks through these steps in more detail.

Tours

Each tour takes about a minute and points at the real screen.

For AI agents

Rack Maker's device modeler can be driven by your own AI agent over MCP. Using AI agents explains how to connect it and what it can do.

These docs are also available as plain Markdown: /llms.txt lists every page, and Docs for agents explains the other formats.
