# Rack Maker docs

What Rack Maker is, where to start, the guided tours, and where each part of the app is explained.

Rack Maker helps you plan a homelab rack before you build it. Pick a 10″ or 19″ rack, a DeskPi RackMate or wire shelving, place your devices in 3D, and check what fits. Rack Maker then gives you the parts list, a quote and STL files for the parts you print.

Everything it knows about hardware comes from a shared [catalog](https://rack-maker.cbnsndwch.dev/catalog) of racks, mounts and devices. If your device is missing, the device modeler turns your measurements into a 3D model with its ports. Your own AI agent can do the measuring for you.

## Three steps

1. **Start a project** on [Projects](https://rack-maker.cbnsndwch.dev/): from a template, like the RackMate TL1 or an 8-node DGX Spark cluster, or from an empty 10″ or 19″ rack. Creating one needs an account; opening one someone shares with you doesn't.
2. **Place parts.** Drag them from **Parts** onto the 3D view or the elevation, or click a part and then a place. Select anything to change it in the **Inspector**.
3. **Check and build.** The checks say what doesn't fit, **BOM & quote** prices what to buy, and **Printed parts** exports the STLs.
